Do you know Bluetooth download speeds? Check the data rates of the wireless transfer of Bluetooth wireless adapter for different versions of the Bluetooth.

Bluetooth Download Speeds Overview

You have probably used Bluetooth for the following purposes:

  • Wireless communication between your mobile phone and handsfree headset
  • Wireless control between mobile phone and car stereo system
  • Wireless communication between computer and mouse and keyboard
  • Wireless communication between computer and printer
  • Wireless communication between game consoles and their wireless controllers
  • Wireless communication between your computer and mobile phone – mobile phone is modem for internet access

If you want to use more complicated and bigger file transfers, you have probably used WiFi not Bluetooth. Read this post to check the Bluetooth download speeds.

My advice is that you read the post What is Bluetooth and how Bluetooth works. You can find there what is Bluetooth, the origin of the name, Bluetooth devices, different Bluetooth applications and how it works.

Different Versions of Bluetooth

Different Speeds for Different Bluetooth Versions

There are different Bluetooth download speeds for different Bluetooth versions. You can see in the table

Different Bluetooth Classes

Bluetooth ranges and classes

Bluetooth ranges and classes

Bluetooth is primarily designed for short range. The exact range depends on the class, but the range also depends on the environment.

Check the range for different classes of the Bluetooth wireless adapters in the left table.

I am sure you are surprised that Bluetooth can work for the ranges up to 100 meters. These 100 m range is only for the Class 1 devices.

Bluetooth Security

Bluetooth uses the key with key generation which is based on a PIN. This PIN must be entered on the both devices. There are many security threats to the Bluetooth security:

  • Denial of service attacks
  • Man in the middle attacks
  • Message modification
  • Resource misappropriation
  • Eavesdropping

Bluetooth Frequency Spectrum

Bluetooth uses the license free frequency from 2.402 to 2.480 GHz. There are many different wireless technologies using the same frequency spectrum. To avoid the interference with them, Bluetooth uses 7o channels of 1 MHz. There is constant change of the channels, 1600 times per second.

Bluetooth Download Speed Conclusion

The best usage of Bluetooth isn’t for downloading and big data transfers. Bluetooth download speeds, compared to the WiFi technology, are quite slow. My advice is to keep using the Bluetooth for the wireless communication between the mobile phone and its accessories (handsfree headset) and communication between computer and mouse, keyboard and printer. Some wireless speakers also use the Bluetooth technology.

Check about the Bluetooth cordless phone system in the post Bluetooth Cordless Phone System – Cellphone and Cordless Phones in One.
